Skinner to Auction Frank E. Jedlicka Collection of Sandwich Glass
Nearly 2,000 pieces to be Auctioned March 9th and 10th, 2002;
Collection Includes Some of the Finest Available Examples of Sandwich Glass
BOLTON, Mass. - February 28, 2002 – Skinner, Inc., one of the nation’s leading full-service auctioneers and appraisers of antiques and fine art, will auction the Sandwich Glass collection of Frank E. Jedlicka, a Sandwich Glass Museum Trustee and long-standing National American Glass Club member. The sale will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10 at Skinner’s Bolton Gallery.
Frank Jedlicka’s superb collection features nearly 2,000 pieces of some of the rarest and most beautiful examples of both colored and colorless Sandwich Glass ever made. Highlights include a silver blue pressed and blown-molded ink set ($25/35,000), a ruby to clear cut overlay punty lamp ($15/18,000), a pair of opal pressed glass three dolphin standards ($12/15,000), an amethyst pressed pattern glass fruit basket on foot ($10/15,000), and a pair of amethyst blown molded paneled glass whale oil lamps ($3/5,000). Other objects of note include several very rare examples of tulip vases, highly valued rooster money banks, dolphin and pressed glass candlesticks, and extensive selections of blown-molded glass, lacy glass, cup plates, and salts. Each piece in the collection was well researched and documented by Frank Jedlicka and displayed in meticulous fashion in his home.
“A collection of this quality is quite rare – it is clearly the culmination of Frank Jedlicka’s long-time passion, and a testament to his knowledge and appreciation of Sandwich Glass,” said Stephen Fletcher, director of Skinner’s American Furniture & Decorative Arts department, and specialist in charge of the auction. “Skinner is honored to have been chosen as the auction house to offer the Jedlicka collection to the public.” Fletcher continued, “This auction offers great appeal not only to collectors of Sandwich Glass, but also to collectors of art glass and fine American decorative arts in general.”
