SKINNER’S PAINTNGS AUCTION TO FEATURE N.C. WYETH FROM PRIVATE COLLECTION AND SEVERAL WORKS BY NORTH SHORE ARTISTS

Artists include Theresa Bernstein, Ogden Minton Pleissner, Norman Rockwell, Antonio Jacobsen, Harry Aiken Vincent, and John Frost

BOSTON, Mass. – November 11, 2002 - www.skinnerinc.com - -- Skinner, Inc., one of the nation’s leading auction houses for antiques and fine art, will hold an auction of American and European Paintings and Prints on Friday November 22, 2002 at 7 p.m. in Skinner’s Boston gallery. The major highlight of the sale is a work by N.C. Wyeth entitled One January Afternoon. The oil on canvas, painted in Wyeth’s later years, was a gift from Nathan Wyeth, the artist's brother, to the father of the current owner, and is an original illustration for The Quest of Narcisse Lablanche, by George T. Marsh, which appeared in the May 1916 issue of Scribner's Magazine. The lot is accompanied by a copy of a letter from the Brandywine River Museum, discussing the piece as well as a copy of the Scribner's catalog file card, documenting the piece. Born in Needham, Massachusetts, N.C. Wyeth became one of America's foremost illustrators, with his work appearing in almost every major magazine publication. His work is included in the collections a number of museums and is currently on view in exhibitions at the Denver Art Museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Spencer Museum of Art, and the Brandywine River Museum. The work is estimated $100,000-$125,000.

There has been a great interest in Lot 238: Sunlight Study/A California Scene, by John Frost (American, 1890-1937) Oil on canvas, Signed and dated "JOHN FROST. '23."
