Antique & Collectible Wedgwood Highlights the Skinner January Discovery Auction


Auction Preview & Live Bidding Offered Online

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – January 12, 2011www.skinnerinc.com - Skinner, Inc. announced today that its upcoming January Discovery auction will feature a special offering of Antique and Collectible Wedgwood Ceramics and Toys & Dolls as well as the usual offerings of furniture, decorative arts, American & European paintings, prints, sculpture & works on paper.

The two day, 1,200 lot auction, to be held at the Skinner Marlborough, MA gallery at 274 Cedar Hill Street, kicks off on Wednesday January 19th at 2 p.m. with over 50 lots of toys & dolls. Also featured is an extensive assortment of Wedgwood ceramic college plates representing the Ivy League, Seven Sisters, State universities and private schools. Vice President & Department Director Kerry Shrives notes that "Ceramic collectible plates are a wonderful way to show school pride and Wedgwood plates have remained in demand since production began in the late 1920s". Wedgwood ceramic offerings also include jasperware, Queensware black basalt, and more.  

Thursday’s session begins at 10 a.m. Featured will be country, painted and formal American 18th, 19th and 20th century furniture, European furniture & decorative arts from Astor’s “Beechwood” mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. Also on the block, American, British and Chinese ceramics, pattern glass, art glass, metalwares, textiles & rugs and all manner of decorative accessories.

Discovery auctions are held monthly at Skinner. Free and open to the public, the Massachusetts auctions offer the general public the rare opportunity to learn about art, antiques, and collectibles at auction, in a relaxed and non-intimidating auction setting. Auction Previews and Catalogue Information

To view the auction property prior to the auction, attend the auction preview in person on Tuesday, January 18th, 12-5, Wednesday, January 19th, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Thursday, January 19th before the auction,  9-10 a.m., at Skinner, 274 Cedar Hill Street, Marlborough, Mass. Auction catalogues are available for purchase at the gallery for $9.00.
