The Doctor’s Collection

Skinner is proud to bring this special collection to an audience. Acquired over decades, The Doctor’s Collection offers a matrix of vineyards, producers, and vintages that will capture the imagination of anyone interested in wine, especially Bordeaux. The Doctor traveled extensively, and celebrated life and occasions through wine.

Marie Keep, Director of Fine Wines, says: “Beginning with fine Champagne, then moving slowly through Bordeaux and eventually dipping into Sauternes and Burgundy, the collection comes to the new world, and finally, ends with great focus on Port. These are wines to linger over.”

Cases of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 and Chateau Latour 1982  represent the vintage at its zenith (Lot 38, Estimate $24,000 to $32,500 and Lot 50, Estimate $15,000 to $22,000). Dazzling Sauternes is on offer with a case of 1971 Chateau d’Yquem (Lot 233, Estimate $3,500 to $5,000). The collection also offers 1985 bottles from the two monopole vineyards of Domaine de la Romanee Conti: Romanee Conti (Lot 293, Estimate $8,000 to $12,000) and La Tache (Lot 294, Estimate $1,800 to $2,400). Highlights from the new world include a case of 1974 Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Lot 356, Estimate $10,000 to $15,000).

Fine Wines

On the second evening of the auction, Skinner presents a curated selection representing great wine regions around the world, including Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone, Piedmont, Tuscany, Napa Valley and Australia. Several small, private cellars represented in the auction echo the model of a life spent collecting.

From Burgundy, Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 2005 (Lot 797, Estimate $6,500 to $9,500) is a wine still in the early phases of a long life. A collection of Sine Qua Non (Lots 627 to 633) includes bottlings rarely seen at auction, and two verticals of Screaming Eagle also represent California (Lots 642 and 643, each estimated at $5,000 to $7,000). Another new world wine, Penfolds Grange, offers a nice vertical of Australian wine (Lot 923, Estimate $1,200 to $1,800).

From full cases to dinner party lots to verticals and single bottles, bidders will find wines for holding as well as bottles to celebrate the holidays and the start of the new year.
