Skinner is proud to serve again as presenting sponsor for the premier antiques event
Marlborough, Mass. – May 2, 2013 – Skinner, Inc. is once again pleased to sponsor the “must attend” event for antique collectors, both novice and expert. The Wayside Inn will hold its 4th annual antiques show on Friday, May 10th through Sunday, May 12th. Over 40 of the country’s top antiques dealers will be exhibiting under the spacious, climate-controlled canopy tent situated next to the Inn. In honor of Mother’s Day, antiquing moms will receive free admission.
Proceeds will benefit the Wayside Inn Historic Site, a non-profit organization comprising some of the area’s most well-known historic structures including the colonial era Wayside Inn, a water-powered grist mill, and the one-room Redstone School, all situated on a pastoral, 125-acre campus.
The ever-popular “Booth Chat” series will continue at the 2013 show, with a number of exhibitors sharing their expertise on a range of topics. Highlights will include Michigan dealer Melvyn Wolf on historic pewter; Connecticut exhibitor Richard Axtell on early American lighting and its relationship to the English market in the 18th century; and New Hampshire specialist John Rogers’ talk on the form and fashion of Pennsylvania butter prints.
Guy LeBlanc, director of marketing and museum services for the Wayside Inn Historic Site, emphasized the importance of the show, “We can’t think of a better focus for a fundraiser to benefit the Wayside Inn. It’s glamorous, certainly, but very approachable and offers something for everyone.” LeBlanc continued, “The dealers are among the most respected in the country and are extremely willing to share their passion and knowledge for antiques. And, we’re honored to again have the support of the show’s presenting sponsor, Skinner Auctioneers and Appraisers. A key business partner, Skinner understands the importance of living history, and provides pivotal support for the educational efforts of the Wayside Inn Historic Site.”
The show commences on Friday evening, May 10th with an advance preview and gala reception, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., providing antiques lovers and collectors with an early opportunity to preview—and own—some of the most sought-after American and European decorative arts. With complimentary champagne, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and open bar, tickets for the preview party are $100 by advance reservation if ordered before May 5th and $125 thereafter. Admission to the Saturday and Sunday shows, taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., is just $10. Mothers will be admitted free of charge on Sunday, Mother’s Day, when accompanied by a paid admission. Parking is free and plentiful, and is available just outside the entrance to the show tent.
According to Karen Keane, CEO of Skinner, Inc., “We are thrilled to be sponsoring what has become a premier event in the antique world.” Keane continued, “Supporting the Wayside Inn is an important corporate mission as we educate the coming generations about history and the importance of our collective material culture.”
The event takes place on the East Field of Longfellow’s Wayside Inn. The Wayside Inn is the centerpiece of the WIHS and one of the oldest operating inns in the United States. First licensed in 1716, the former Howe Tavern was an important stagecoach stop for much of the 18th and 19th centuries and was later developed into the first living history museum in the country under the ownership of Henry Ford. The village-like campus created by Ford in the early 20th century has been designated a Massachusetts Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. All funds raised by the show will be used to support the site’s educational endeavors, which benefit approximately 150,000 visitors annually.
