Tour the New Skinner Website

Welcome to the new Skinner website! Take a tour of the website with this introductory video.

We may auction antiques, but the new website is anything but. It’s fast, fresh, and easy to use.

We recommend clicking “HD” below the video to turn on high-definition. Press play, then use the arrows next to ‘HD” to view the video in full screen. You will also want to make sure that your sound is turned on.

Here is a selection of our favorite new features.

• Browse beautiful images in a grid view of the auction catalog
• Search both upcoming and sold lots at the same time
• Visit specialty area pages to explore Skinner’s expertise in over forty different collecting areas

We hope you enjoy using the new website.

  1. Nice new website.

But, I couldn’t find any high def. button, at least not when I’m using my iPad.

  2. I am very excited about the new website and i have some specific suggestions.
I so hope that these features will be included:

    — Multiple fixed views of an object are good but a ‘ roving magnifier’ is particularly helpful for viewing surfaces etc. all over an object. Surface is such a key concern to most of us and the normal close-up photos are lousy for showing surface.
    — Black light images are terrific. Keno includes black light images of some important paintings in their current catalogue.

–Search options are so critical for improving the catalogue preview experience. IMO, the more search categories, the better. Cowan’s search feature has some very good design. The list of categories is in the left gutter, alphabetical, top to bottom, and each category clicked leads to further refined search options, i.e.:

    Folk Art> Sculpture/ Paintings/ Accessories/ Furniture/Pottery/ Other >18th c./19th c./20th c. >Wood/Metal/Stone/Other
and the number of objects in each category.

    — Another very helpful feature would be ‘Add to My Bag’ where one’s ‘My Bag’ page would list all the items and their Lot#, Title, Thumbnail Photo, Estimate; with a link to the item’s page. A ‘Request Condition Report’ and ‘Request Photo’ button to the right of each listing could allow a drop-down box to be filled in with the request details. That way, a bidder could forward to Skinner a combined list of all requests on one page. It would be great if Skinner offered Black Lighted photos to be an option in the photo requests.

  3. After a brief look-see your site seems clean, well-organized and helpful. Thanks for the update. Of course we hope the photography stays just as superb as it always has been.

  4. I just wanted to say that i love the new website…One of my areas of interest is Galle vases…before i could scroll through the back 20th century auctions searching for vases that have sold. Now I can just do a search and find all that have sold (including the two that i aquired) so much easier and a great educational tool. thanks!!!!!!!!

  5. Have John Kennedy memorobelia, my father and John were good friends. In the near future we will go to Boston, and bring articles with us,and see if the papers have any value.

    • Jeannette,
Thanks for your comment. When you’re in Boston, please give us a call at 617-350-5400 to inquire about an appointment.

  6. I am always impressed with the courtesy and the quick response I get from the staff at Skinners.
I collect 17th and early 18th furniture and decorative items of that period. Skinners is such a good source for my searches. I look forward to the 2013 auction season.

  7. I have a very old photo print that I found in the UK. I am not sure but they used to print on glass. Who do I contact. Need someon to look at it. Thank you

  8. Love the new site…and just wanna add, a “thank you” for selling the oil for my client…she is very happy, and that makes me happy. Getting some more items from her, taking pics and images of said items. Hopefully they will do as well. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more auctions with you! sincerely Pat
