Fine Musical Instruments Department Specialist, Marlborough, MA

We are in need of a specialist to provide curatorial, business development, auction, and administrative support for the fine musical instruments department director. We are seeking a personable, detail-oriented individual who is familiar with the world of stringed instruments and has the desire to help grow the business.

Responsibilities:

Day-to-day management of the fine musical instruments department:
• Receive inquiries for auction appraisals and take in consignment material under supervision of the department head
• Develop and execute plan for new business in conjunction with department head
• Manage departmental marketing communications and public relations; liaise with Skinner corporate marketing
• Provide pre-auction support, including instrument preparation, inventory, cataloging, and photography assistance as required; coordinate with Skinner inventory and production departments
• Provide department head with administrative and logistical support as needed
• Perform auction duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Experience with and passion for stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, or fretted) either as a player, teacher/instructor, or luthier
• Highly organized self-starter
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Pleasant and persuasive phone manner
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; end user proficiency with online and social media platforms such as Wordpress, Facebook, and Twitter
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years full-time work experience
