The May auction of Fine Prints & Photography features a group of daguerreotype portraits of men, women, and children. Several of these very early photographs demonstrate high quality hand tinting. The collection includes several daguerreotypes representing the school of Southworth & Hawes, the preeminent Boston studio in the second half of the 19th century. Though the collection features mainly American images, two very strong works by British daguerreotypist William Edward Kilburn stand out.
