Description:

Molded Sheet Copper "Blackhawk" Weathervane, probably Cushing, late 19th century, flattened full-body form with molded mane and tail, (allover verdigris, traces of gilt, minor imperfections),on stand, ht. 18 1/2, lg. 33 in.

Note: Information provided by the consignor relates that this weathervane was installed on the cupola of a barn at 676 Trapelo Road, Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1877, until it was blown off in the hurricane of 1938. It was acquired from a man named Alvah Clark, who apparently once worked for Mr. Cushing.
