Iron Scold's Bridle, probably 18th century.

Note: The scold's bridle or Branks mask consists of an iron face cage with a protrusion into the mouth, making it painful for a person to speak. Most notably used as punishment or humiliation device for a vocal, nagging woman (a scold) in 16th century England, the device reportedly made its way to the American colonies and was used on slaves.
