Benchmade Set of Eight John Gaines-style Dining Chairs, made by Alan Breed, Salmon Falls, Maine, c. 1989, comprising two armchairs and six side chairs, all with shaped crests, vasiform splats, rush seats, boldly turned stretchers, and elaborately carved front feet, armchair ht. 43, side chair ht. 41, all seat ht. 18 in.

Note: This set of chairs and the following lot (lot 324, Gate-leg Table) were originally made for William Gilmore, the preeminent collector of 18th century New Hampshire furniture.
