George Jacob Hunzinger Maple Armchair, c. 1876, with steel and wool, painted areas, rectangular back with turned ears extending to downswept arms ending in conical handholds, diagonal front leg support, lower stretcher, ending in incurvate feet, inscribed "HUNZINGER, PAT APRIL 18, 1876," and "N.Y./PAT.MARCH 30/1869," ht. 30 3/4, wd. 20, dp. 23 in.

N.B. This chair anticipates much of the machine-inspired aesthetic of the 20th century. Hunzinger was at the forefront of creating inventive furniture and secured twenty-one patents for the various types of furniture he designed.

Frame with some nicks and overall age-typical surface wear, back horizontal cross stretcher has finish pooled at end and possibly repaired, wool worn and with losses against mesh back and seat. See photos.
