Double-page folio map, copper-plate engraving on laid paper with fleur-de-lis watermark, verso blank, hand-colored, with the first letter "C" in "Chesepiooc sinus" present as such; matted and framed, the sheet 18 x 13 1/4 in.
This engraved map was based an original sketch by the ill-fated Roanoke Colony governor and artist, John White. It is the most accurate 16th century map of any part of North America and records the earliest British attempt at colonization of the continent.
