Description:

Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975)

Planting, alternatively titled Spring Plowing, 1939, edition of 250 plus proofs, published in 1940 by Associated American Artists, New York (Fath, 28; AAA/Czestochowski, 1940.003). Signed "Benton" in pencil l.r. and within the matrix, identified on a label from AAA affixed to the backing. Lithograph on wove paper with "GCM" watermark, image size 9 7/8 x 12 5/8 in. (25.0 x 32.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Deckled edges, laid down, unobtrusive mat burn, pale toning, stray pencil marks to margins, old hinges to upper corners.
Estimate $1,200-1,800
