Signed "KATHARINE W. LANE" within the cast on base, dated "1926" faintly in corner of the base nearest the signature, marked "KUNST-FOUNDRY NY" within the cast on base.
Bronze with black patina, 10 1/2 x 8 1/4 x 2 5/8 in. (26.6 x 20.9 x 6.7 cm).
Condition: Minor wear to patina, dust to interstices.
Provenance: Private Collection, Kentucky.

N.B. The plaster for this work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
In her book on Weems cited above, Louise Ambler give the title Week-Old Colt for this sculpture. She goes on to provide a context for this work, writing "While at the Crosbys, she modeled their Sicilian donkey and did a composition of donkeys that appeared in the Academy exhibition (1926) with Narcisse Noir and Week-Old Colt."
