Description:

Simon Willard Patent Timepiece or "Banjo" Clock," Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1805, the mahogany case with uniform cut head, dovetailed bottom board, crossbanded inlaid frames enclosing reverse-painted tablets, the lower inscribed Willard's Patent and on the banner clutched by an American eagle, E. Pluribus Unum, all within a geometric border, the waist glass flanked by brass side ornaments decorated with leafage and scrolls, brass bezel over the painted iron rolling Arabic numeral dial, blued steel diamond-shaped hands and period brass eagle finial, eight-day brass movement with dead-beat escapement, step train, through bolt case attachment and T-bridge pendulum suspension powered by a lead weight and regulated by a pendulum, ht. 35 in.

Original painted glasses stabilized and with minor in-painting, original hands, weight, brass hardware including pendulum, dial (although darkened, period finial, case cleaned many years ago.
