Description:

Miniature Painting of Sisupala and his Retinue, India, Garhwal, 18th century, opaque color and gold on wasli, depicting Krishna's cousin and enemy Sisupala riding a horse and surrounded by his attendants, some who follow him on horseback and four who walk in front holding banners, all ready for battle with swords, spears, and shields, probably from a series illustrating the Bhagavata Purana, on a red-painted background with a slightly curved yellow horizon line, framed by a painted line border, matted, sight size 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 in.

Not examined out of mat, few very minor areas of paint/gilt loss, particularly bottom center, very slight creasing on face of attendants at left, minor creasing to upper right corner.
