Description:

Massachusetts Patent Timepiece or "Banjo" Clock, c. 1815, the mahogany case with a painted iron Roman numeral dial within a brass bezel, ebonized and gilt rope-molded frames enclosing the reverse-painted lower tablet depicting a rural scene with a cabin next to a river, and the geometric decorated waist glass reading Willard's Patent, flanked by brass side ornaments, gilt and ebonized carved pedestal, eight-day timepiece with ear plates for attachment to case, dead-beat escapement, all regulated by a brass-faced pendulum bob and iron rod, ht. 33 1/2 in.
