Louis Icart (French, 1888-1950)

Joie de vivre, 1929 (Holland et al., 359). Signed "Louis Icart" in pencil l.r., numbered "255" in pencil l.l., artist's dry stamp l.l., identified within the plate. Color etching and aquatint with stencil coloring on paper, plate size 24 3/4 x 16 in. (62.8 x 40.6 cm),framed (unglazed).
Condition: Toning, fox marks.
Estimate $800-1,200

The sheet measures about 28 x 19 3/8 inches, and the very edges of the sheet are rolled back on themselves to allow the work to fit in the frame. The sheet is cockled and fox. The verso is very darkly toned. There is a gentle rub to the image beside the figure's upraised elbow.
