Child's Chair by Charles and Ray Eames
Molded birch-veneered plywood
Molded Plywood division of Evans Products Company, Venice, California, USA, c. 1945
The backrest with heart-shaped cutout over a seat and legs molded from a single sheet of plywood, split to plywood near left front leg, imperfections, ht. 14 1/2 in.

Provenance: From the Estate of Jill Mitchell (Virginia Mills),a student at Cranbrook in the 1940s, where she won awards for her work in woven and printed textile design. During her time there she became a lifelong friend of Charles and Ray Eames and Eero Saarinen, later working for both.

Note: Produced for only one year, it is estimated that approximately 5,000 chairs were made. An example of this iconic design is part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 1986.437, and the Museum of Modern Art, accession number 82.1948.
