Description:

Federal Inlaid Mahogany Lolling Chair, Joseph Short, Newburyport, Massachusetts, c. 1800-10, the flared back with serpentine crest on shaped arms and concave supports, with overupholstered seat joining turned front legs and shaped, square tapering rear legs, ht. 45 1/2, seat ht. 16 3/4 in.

Note: Bears the cabinetmaker's label reading: "WARRANTED/CABINET WORK/OF ALL KINDS/MADE AND SOLD BY/JOSEPH SHORT," then giving his location on Merrimack Street in Newburyport.
Estimate $10,000-15,000

Pieced repair on arm where joined to side of back, glue blocks on seat have been re-glued, some cracks to inlaid veneer, and surface abrasions on the legs. About 2/3 of the original label is present.
