Paul Spindler (French, 1907-1980)

Three-panel Marquetry Floor Screen, c. 1950, skillfully inlaid in various figured and tinted veneers, depicting a hunting party armed with bows and spears racing through the woods after two elk, the figures in medieval-style clothing, with a castle in the distance, each panel joined by brass hinges, raised on two metal-mounted bracket feet, self-framed, inlaid signature to lower right corner "P. Spindler," ht. 71, wd. of each panel 26 1/2, total wd. 79 1/2 in.

N.B. Correspondence with Jean Charles Spindler, the son of the artist, accompanies the lot.

Veneer dry throughout, however in overall good condition with lifting, cracks, patches, etc. Some minor abrasions to outer edge of the panels.
