Description:

Russian Metal Cross, 17th/18th century, the face inscribed God of Glory, Jesus Christ, Son of the Holy Father, the reverse bearing the remains of the inscription Before Thy Holy Cross we bow and in Thy Holy Resurrection we glorify. God Save Our Lives, lg. 2 1/4 in.

Provenance: Purchased in 1933 from the Hammer Collection's Russian Imperial Exhibit. A copy of a letter related to the sale, which claimed the cross originally belonged to Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna, accompanies the lot.
