Costume Design for Aeschylus's Tragedy Seven Against Thebes (Septem Contra Thebas)
Signed "Alex. Exter" l.r., stamped "DOUANES/ EXPOSITION/ PARIS" and inscribed
"No. 56" in pencil and "...A. Exterova/ Sedm pred Theb...Kostym [Costume]" in ink on a label in Czechoslovakian on the reverse.
Gouache on paper, sheet size 20 1/4 x 12 7/8 in. (51.4 x 32.7 cm),framed.
Condition: Masking tape hinged to window mat.

Provenance: Through the collection of George Reynolds Freedley (New York theater critic and founder of the Theater Research Collection of the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center); Skinner Inc., May 12, 1983, Sale 898, Lot 120.
