Cizhou Sgraffito Vase, China, Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), the ovoid body rising to a short circular neck, the sides carved through the dark brown outer glaze to the white slip underneath with a broad band of peonies borne on leafy scrolls, the lower body and the base covered by rich brown glaze, foot ring unglazed, ht. 7 in.
