Description:

Three Carved and Painted Wooden Decoys, America, late 19th/early 20th century, including a Canvasback by Holger Smith of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, branded "H.G. Smith Decoys" and inscribed "Holger G. Smith/Fairhaven Rd./Mattapoisett, Mass.," ht. 7 1/2, lg. 14 in.; a folk painted duck which was previously in the collection of the late Mary Allis 1899-1987),well-known Southport, Connecticut dealer, ht. 6, lg. 13 in.; and a black-painted duck with inset glass eyes, possibly an eider, ht. 9, lg. 16 1/2 in., (imperfections).

Note: A periodical clipping showing the folk-painted decoy in Mary Allis' home accompanies the decoys.
Estimate $800-1,000

Canvasback- minor paint wear on tip of bill and tail; folk duck- old loss to tip of bill, small loss to top of head, age cracks on back and base, paint wear; black duck-few small abrasions and paint losses.
