Description:

Mahoganyand Whalebone Yarn Swift Sewing Stand, America, mid-19th century, turned ivory yarn holder and axis spoke heightened with red and black sealing wax, expanding panbone slats, the lower shaft with brass thread holders topped with ivory finials, mounted on a mahogany case with two drawers and topped with turned ivory cups, finial, and corner supports, (minor imperfections), ht. 24 1/2, swift expands to approx. 25 in.
Estimate $12,000-15,000

The slats are joined at the tops and bottoms with replaced ribbons and string, some of the ivory cups and finials have unobtrusive cracks, repaired crack acriss the top of the mahogany case above top drawer. and some joinery has evidence of regluing.
