Description:

Scheier Pottery Large Decorated Vessel, Edwin and Mary Scheier (b. 1910, 1909), New Hampshire, c. 1960, matte brown with a band of sgraffito stylized figures in buttermilk-colored underglaze below the cutout rim, (restoration), incised "Scheier," ht. 14 1/4, dia. 11 3/4 in.

Note: The Scheiers taught ceramics at The University of New Hampshire from 1941-60, they then traveled to Mexico and currently reside in Arizona. The Currier Gallery in Manchester, New Hampshire, is one of the many museums that exhibit pottery and other works of art by the Scheiers.
