As the Regional Director for Florida, April Matteini provides appraisal services and manages client relations with individuals, fiduciaries, not-for-profit organizations, and museums in Florida and the Southeastern United States. With more than twenty years of appraisal experience, she is at home evaluating and consulting on a range of material, from individual pieces of fine jewelry to entire estates.
Prior to Skinner, April was the Founder and Managing Member of A. Matteini & Co. LLC, an independent jewelry appraisal service specializing in modern and antique fine jewelry, diamonds, gemstones, and watches. In this role, she provided comprehensive appraisal and gemological services to leading retailers, attorneys, trust and estate professionals, and private collectors throughout South Florida.
From 1998 to 2000, she served as an Antique Jewelry Specialist for J. & S.S. DeYoung, Inc. in Boston, appraising and evaluating high-end antique and estate jewelry. In 1993, April began her career at Skinner. Starting as an auction assistant, she later served in the appraisal department, handling prospective client inquiries pertaining to all types of material. She subsequently served as the assistant to the director of the Fine Jewelry Department, starting her career as a fine jewelry appraiser.
April earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from Saint Lawrence University. She later attended the Corso di Antiquariato e Mercatistica, a professional program in antiques and marketing, at the Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro in Florence, Italy; and she earned her Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 2000, later completing extra certifications in pearl and cut grading. April resides in Miami with her family.
